Cedar house

In 2018, this newly renovated private house was completed in Silkeborg. It is clad with durable Canadian cedar from Frøslev Træ that adds a unique design without disturbing the area around the house. The renovation was so successful that the house was nominated for the Danish Renovation Reward, Renoverprisen, in 2019.

The combination of the thick walls and the large windows, slightly recessed, adds a beautiful play to the façade and underlines the depth of the house. The large windows provide a unique opportunity to keep up with the Danish seasons rushing by outside.

The terrace, built in ThermoAsk from Frøslev Træ, connects the house with the surrounding nature when it meets the terrain. The low plant tray serves as protection but also ensures optimum visibility and combines the differences in terrain so that nature is drawn close to the house.

Building owners Malene Nørdgaard and Christian Corydon Frederiksen worked together with Årstiderne architects to transform this neglected bungalow from 1934 into a home that once again deserves to be in interaction with the lake and the forest just around the corner.

Wood and profiles

  • The house is covered with Canadian cedar and ThermoAsk has been used on the beautiful wooden terrace.

The combination of the thick walls and the large windows, which have been pulled back a little, creates a beautiful play in the facade and emphasizes the depth of the house.
