Day care centre Den grønne kile

Architects Mangor og Nagel A/S won the competition to design the new day care centre Den Grønne Kile in Hvalsø. The purpose of the project was to combine three day care centres into one with plenty of space for the many children who spend a large part of their childhood in the new building.

The idea behind the building was to create a base from which the children were able to explore the surrounding world in a safe environment and develop at their own pace and on their own terms. The result was this beautiful wooden building which was completed in 2014. The façade is covered with ThermoAsk from Frøslev Træ, adding a warm and welcoming look to the building.

The wood is clad with ThermoAsk, resulting in a natural connection between the outdoor areas and the safe base. The aim is to get the children to come out of their safe base to explore their surroundings.

ThermoAsk was chosen because of its heat treatment with no use of toxins or harmful gases, and it has great durability, making it perfect for a lot of playing children with all that comes with it. The architect behind the project is Mangor og Nagel A/S that won over a handful of other proposals suggesting the look of the new day care centre.
