Day-care facilities Gimsinghovedvej

The new daycare facility in Struer, Central Jutland, was built to accommodate about 100 preschool children and 50 nursery children and was completed in 2021. The building is contemporary and modern with inspiring facilities for both children and staff. The natural materials are used throughout the daycare facility to create an inviting and pleasant environment. On the outside, focus is on imagination and movement, so there are play towers, obstacle courses and small wooden houses where the children can play.

The façade is divided into three areas that go through the entire day care facility. Light tiles with coloured panels are used at the entrances, creating a fun and playful environment. ThermoWood from Frøslev Træ is used on several parts of the façade and contributes with warmth, combining the building with the surroundings.

ThermoWood from Frøslev Træ is heat-treated pine that carries the Nordic Swan Ecolabel and originates from sustainable forestry. No toxins or harmful gases are used in the process. The material is therefore ideal for day care centres. The choice of materials was in focus when the new day care facility was built, and the choice fell on ThermoWood.

Meissner+Sigh Arkitekter worked with the Ingeniørgruppen Vestjylland ApS to bring the imaginative daycare facility to life. The building owner is Struer Municipality which now has a day care facility with full focus on the well-being of children, indoors as well as outdoors.

Frøslev Embla ThermoWood has a warm, brown shade, and if you leave it untreated, it will get a beautiful, silver grey patination that gets even more beautiful over the years. Jørgen K. Johansen, Production Manager COO Frøslev
