Karlsen Biler

The new car dealership in Horsens, Karlsen Biler, was completed in 2020. The goal was to create a building that was as unique as the cars sold inside. The result is a façade made of ThermoWood from Frøslev Træ. It has pure lines and a classic look and draws customers in to find their new vehicle.

ThermoWood is an exciting product that undergoes a very special process, dating back to the Viking period. Back then, the outside of wooden poles was carbonised and then put into water to prolong durability. Today, the process has been refined with modern technology and consists of heat and steam for exceptional durability and dimensional stability.

The result is a beautiful, dark board that will eventually patinate into a silver-grey colour. This means that the wood looks nice for as many years as its durability allows. Karlsen Biler now has a modern and well-polished car dealership that reflects the high quality of the cars that leave the dealership.

The architect behind is AB Huset, more specifically Allan Brunbjerg. He went for a kind of cave atmosphere which is evident in the dark, wooden façade outside. The result is an attractive dealership that draws both the eye and the interest of customers as well as passers-by.

Wood and profiles

  • ThermoWood for facade cladding has been delivered in 1x2" (net approx. 21x42 mm) planed 4 sides.

150,000 m3 of wood - That is the amount of wood going through Frøslev’s machines every year. Thanks to its own production in Denmark, Frøslev is able customise unique wood solutions for any project.
